I saw this comic by Kate or Die the other day and had to share it because 1. It’s awesome and 2. She and I are among several people out there in the world who are currently obsessed with all things pumpkin.
Oh yes, I am one of those bloggers. But I don’t just have pumpkin spiced latte-itis (which it seems everyone and their mom has), oh no. I’m talking about ALL THINGS PUMPKIN. I am this person. And to be honest, I’m not even sorry.
I’m not really sure when this started. Sure, baking lots of pumpkin-flavored goodies is something I strive to do around this time every year. I’ll hoard canned pumpkin like nobody’s business. But this year, it’s a bit more extreme.
Here’s a breakdown of what I’ve tried (and enjoyed so far):
Pumpkin in my coffee: Yes, yes. Everyone loves pumpkin spiced lattes. I’ve definitely had a few. But truthfully, I have trouble giving Starbucks $5 of money every time I want one. So instead, I’ve tried pumpkin spice creamer in my home-brewed coffee. I’m actually a huge fan! It’s not as sweet as the pumpkin spiced latte, which I really like. I may or may not be on my 2nd bottle already.
Pumpkin in my beer: I love seasonal beers. And pumpkin beer is no exception. My favorite from last year was Southern Tier’s Pumking and it’s still easily one of the best pumpkin beers I’ve ever had. But a couple of weekends ago, I tried one that I think might be this year’s winner: O’Fallon Pumpkin Ale. It’s a great balance of spice and sweet, with just the right amount of pumpkin. Uinta’s Punk’n is a close 2nd.
Pumpkin in my baking: I actually have yet to crack into this, but I have a hilarious list of recipes already lined up. The first one I’ll be tackling is pumpkin bread this weekend. My office is having a fall potluck in a couple of weeks and I think I’ll be making pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. Then of course for Thanksgiving, I’m going to try my hand at pumpkin pie bars. Ridiculous? Perhaps. Amazing and delicious? Definitely.
Pumpkin in my granola: I love granola from Trader Joe’s. I stopped by earlier this week and saw they had pumpkin spice granola so I clearly had to buy it. For the record, it’s pretty good.
Of course, there are a couple of things I haven’t really dabbled in yet, including Trader Joe’s pumpkin spice cream cheese (although I am curious), pumpkin spice Hershey’s Kisses, and any pumpkin-scented candles or soaps. For some reason, these candles and soaps always smell far too sweet to me and I can’t bring myself to buy them.
All of the things pumpkin will eventually fall off everyone’s radar; I’m pretty sure the end date is the day after Thanksgiving. Until then, I’m going to completely enjoy pumpkin’s popularity. :)
