From top to bottom: “Spooky Little Girl” by Laurie Notaro, “The Idiot Girls’ Action Adventure Club” by Laurie Notaro, “I Don’t Care About Your Band” by Julie Klausner, and “My Life in France” by Julia Child
All of the used books I ordered arrived within days of each other and I’m so glad I finally having some reading material for my commute to and from work. I actually finished “Spooky Little Girl” this morning after starting it a few days ago. I really enjoy Laurie Notaro’s writing; I wanted to read her novel first to see how her non-fiction writing held up and it was really good. I love essay collections in book form (Sloane Crosley is at the top of my list of faves) and I saw that “The Idiot Girls’ Action Adventure Club” was well-received, so I decided to get that book as well.
Julie Klausner’s book also falls within the realm of essay collections and really, who doesn’t love reading about dating disasters (that didn’t happen to you)?
Last but not least, I think I’ve sort of admired Julia Child since watching “Julie and Julia” a couple of years ago. I sort of hate Julie Powell (more in that movie than as a person) but I completely loved Julia and had been wanting to buy her autobiography for some time. I think I’ll save her book for last, since I’ve already started imagining reading it on the train and outdoors at a coffee shop on warm summer days. Hopefully she’s inspire me to do some cooking. :)
What are you reading right now? I’m always looking for new books to check out!
