Well, it’s October! The air is lovely and crisp. I had dinner and drinks with Alex last night for date night and spent this afternoon watching Northwestern football with college friends and had cheap bloody marys (which helped lessen the blow of our super close loss). So far, you would think the weekend is off to a great start.
Except that on Friday afternoon, I was laid off from my job. It wasn’t unexpected, but it did feel a bit sudden. I knew that my project (and thus, my position) was in jeopardy. You can’t really control these sorts of things, honestly. But this means I no longer have an income or insurance, so I’ll have to manage everything really carefully for the next few weeks. It’s not the best situation, but I have wonderful people in my life, like Alex, who are making everything that much easier.
The first thing I have to do is be proactive. Come Monday morning, it’s all about applying for unemployment insurance, apply for jobs, hunt for freelancing gigs and crunching a few numbers. I’m going to be hopeful, yet realistic. We’ll have to wait and see. Until then, I’m going to enjoy my Sunday. Alex and I will be checking out Design Harvest in my neighborhood, doing some shopping for his new apartment and then making veggie chili for dinner.
Here we go.
