sugar and spice, part 1.

I’ve been such a busy bee these days! I’m slowly trying to get back into the world of freelancing (it’s a tedious process, honestly), running around with friends and having adventures with the boy. Today is finally a day for me to get it together, get organized and relax. Oh, and blog of course.

As I’ve mentioned before, I love baking but I don’t excel at cooking. Luckily, the boy is all about cooking and is genuinely excited to dabble in making vegetarian food. So this past Monday, he made veggie tacos (super yummy!) and last night, I repaid him by trying out a new recipe for “red velvet” chocolate chip cookies. I say “red velvet” because I’ve dealt with red velvet before and it usually involves ingredients like vinegar and buttermilk, whereas this recipe just called for red food coloring. Either way, it looked delicious, so I decided to give it a go!


They didn’t come out as red as I would have liked, but food coloring is tricky like that! And I knew that the cocoa powder would change the color a bit (which it did). Still, they came out great! The boy and I were super pleased. The consistency was almost brownie-like, which I sort of loved. They were amazing out of the oven and were still soft and chewy this morning. The boy took half of the batch to work (he confessed they’re all gone already) and I brought the rest into my office.

Oh, and this post is called “sugar and spice” because the first half is about the cookies I just made, while the 2nd half (which I hope to post eventually) will be about a spicy recipe so stay tuned! :)

    I like the “red velvet” part of your red velvet cookies.I bet they were delicious.
