happy anniversary.

So as of yesterday, I have been living in Chicago for one full year. On June 8th, 2010, I got off a plane on a warm, rainy day with two overstuffed suitcases and made my way to Wicker Park, where my new apartment awaited me. I remember feeling exhilarated and beyond nervous. I was starting over again, but this time, I felt more certain. I knew I was where I wanted to be, perhaps where I should have been all along.

I had no idea what the next year would hold. Wonderful summer adventures, freelancing and temp jobs, wandering around my favorite city, meeting new people, (poor) attempts at dating and everything in between.

It all went by so, so fast. And now here I am, one year later. My life is by no means perfect. But I still have my lovely apartment in my favorite neighborhood, I’m gainfully employed, I have great friends and I have a very nice, new boy in my life. And all in Chicago, the city I hope to call home for years to come.

I have a few questions, if you don’t mind? Had you already lived there before? Did you already have friends/a social circle there?
My inner free spirit can’t wait to just pick and move to a city that will make me feel truly fulfilled to be a part of. I have to wait until I finish school though, which is the ultimate motivation.

Congratulations on your one year anniversary! You seem truly and genuinely happy :)

Hi Carolina! Yes, I’ve lived in Chicago before; I went college in the ‘burbs and moved back to Texas briefly after graduating. I knew that by moving back to Chicago, I would have some college friends around, but I’ve also managed to meet some great new people as well.
I’m from such a small town, so I can understand that inner free spirit and the need to wander. I’ve lived in Austin, San Francisco, been to New York, but after all this time, I know that Chicago is the place for me! Couldn’t ask for a better city.
      And thanks so much! :)
