baking and dancing the night away.

I can’t believe it’s taken me until Thursday to blog about last weekend. It seems like once the work week kicks in, all I do is go to work, come home, make dinner, go to the gym, then hit the hay. But since it’s been almost a week, I need to get this post up!

Last Friday, Jamie (who I had not seen in FOREVER) fought the weather and traffic to come hang out with me and make champagne cupcakes. Seriously; cupcakes with champagne in them. I’ve never baked with booze before but it was a fun little experiment. We also had chocolate rum cupcakes lined up, but in between baking two batches of cupcakes, drinking the leftover champagne and then cracking into a bottle of wine, it just didn’t happen (but I do plan to try the recipe I found soon!). The cupcake itself was super yummy but we were worried that the frosting was going to be way too sugary (it called for ridiculous amounts of sugar and butter; we were borderline-Paula Deen up in here, it was that crazy) but it still turned out pretty well.

How cute are the wrappers Jamie found? We took half the cupcakes to The Whistler in Logan Square, where we were celebrating WG2‘s birthday. We had a drink known as the Mexican Firing Squad, which I can only describe as a slightly lethal drink made mainly of tequila, and danced to the best hits of the 90s (we’re talking BSB, N’Sync, Britney, Hanson, Ace of Base… so ridiculous and amazing!) before heading back to Wicker Park, grabbing late night tacos and eventually crashing around 3 a.m. So, so much fun.

March has gotten off to a chilly start, but I’m optimistic about what the rest of the month will hold. I have St. Patrick’s Day plans in the works, I’m volunteering at my first 826CHI workshop (yay! so excited!) and before I know it, April will be here, along with my buddy Adrian for a weekend-long visit (beginning on his birthday, no less). For now, I’ll just keep working for the weekend. :)
