December 21: Future self.
Imagine yourself five years from now. What advice would you give your current self for the year ahead? (Bonus: Write a note to yourself 10 years ago. What would you tell your younger self?)
Dear Present Dani,
You have high hopes for 2011 and for good reason. I know it feels like it took you a long time to get here. Like somehow, the time from graduating from college up to the point you’re at now, feels wasted. But it wasn’t. Because everything you’ve done up till now has been part of the learning experience that is your life.
You’ll figure out that much more this coming year, but not everything at once. It’ll come in pieces, but you’ll definitely make some progress so keep your head held high.
This year will also be the year you turn 25, which I know right now seems really crazy and overwhelming somehow, but you’ll be okay. You’ll laugh and smile and make the most of it. Your quarterlife crisis will not take away from how much fun you’re about to have, so don’t worry too much.
So, enjoy 2011 for all its worth. Smile, laugh, explore. Meet new people. Do new things. Let yourself fall in love (with someone or with life in general). Let yourself fall down (as long as you always pick yourself back up). And always remember: life isn’t about finding yourself, it’s about creating yourself.
Lots of love,
