December 4: Wonder.
How did you cultivate a sense of wonder in your life this year?
(Author: Jeffrey Davis)
I technically lived in Chicago (albeit the surburbs, in Evanston) for four years while in college. I constantly explored the city when I could but ultimately, I always often felt like I had an outsider’s look into the city. Now that I’m living here again for the long run, it’s almost like having to relearn what I already knew about Chicago all over again, this time from a an entirely different perspective.
I had certain aspects–neighborhoods, streets, downtown–remembered a specific way. Now, living in Wicker Park and owning a car, I see things pretty differently now. I’m no longer confined to the red line; I don’t even ride the red line anymore (I’m strictly a blue and brown line girl these days).
My perspective has shifted and I’m constantly learning more about this city. I hope I never stop exploring, stop wondering what else is left to see and find.
